Reuse Workshop

OERs are often created by projects that are only funded for a specific period. For this reason, KlimaOER has asked itself the following questions: What happens to the OERs afterwards, and how can they continue to be used? After all, one of the fundamental principles of OERs is the further development and adaptation of existing OERs. What might this look like in practice? What forms of re-use are there, and what do I need to bear in mind? We will discuss these questions in our workshop on the re-use of OERs. A key focus will be on the practical implementation of various re-use strategies. We will pay particular attention to legally compliant remixing, thereby putting the content of our licensing workshop into practice.

This online workshop will take place on 11 August 2026 from 9 am to 2 pm. You can register now via klimaoer@uni-bonn.de.

Past workshops

We held the inclusion workshop in Bonn in October 2024. As this was our first workshop and our very first steps into OER, we only invited internal participants and tested our workshop skills within a small group to begin with. However, the workshop, with all its content on inclusion, proved to be extremely insightful, and the slides will soon be published on our ‘Project Results’ page.

On 17 March 2025, we ran a workshop on open-source tools.

A selection of open-source tools was presented, and the workshop was intended to serve as an introduction to using these tools. To this end, the principle of open source was first explained, along with a brief introduction to OER in this context. Participants were then given a brief introduction to one tool in each of the following areas: search engines, text editors and Markdown, image and video editing, animation and H5P elements. They then worked on related tasks either independently or in small groups. A list of further tools in these areas (in addition to those we selected) will be made available to you in a blog post and a presentation on our website.

On 12 and 13 November 2025, we ran a workshop on licensing in Hamburg.
For those new to OER, or for those who finally want to get to grips with it properly.

On the afternoon of 12 November and the morning of 13 November, we offered an opportunity to learn all about licensing in OER in the beautiful Hanseatic city of Hamburg. We had contributions from the OER community and legal experts, such as Jens Brelle from Multimediakontor Hamburg, who taught us about the basics of copyright and licences. This was followed by a presentation from us on the different types of licences available. The HOOU (Hamburg Open Online University), represented by Katrin Bock, supported us with a talk on licensing in practice within the OER context and shared her experiences with their learning platform. Henry Steinhau from iRights.info was also there and showed us iRights’ OER assessment tool. Last but not least, we gave participants the opportunity to develop or revise their own licensing strategy. Of course, there was plenty of time in between for discussion and networking.

The Evaluation Workshop took place online on 9 and 10 June 2026 and was led by Susanne von Jan. She is our evaluation expert and gave us a concise overview of the eight steps of the evaluation cycle. You will soon find a concise summary of this in our guide to evaluation.
