A degree in geosciences?
Yes, but which one(s)?

Earth sciences combine disciplines that deal with the research and teaching of the Earth system in the past and present and related processes. Within the Earth Sciences, the Institute of Geosciences covers the research areas of geology, geochemistry/petrology, geophysics, meteorology/climate, and paleontology of animals and plants.

Thus, the choice of research areas is wide. A geoscience degree offers a broad spectrum of theoretical and practical disciplines to guide university research and teaching.

At the Institute of Geosciences of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, 2 Bachelor, 4 Master programs and one international Double Degree Program are offered in 2 teaching units.

Teaching unit Geosciences

The Geosciences Teaching Unit covers the following majors:

  • Bachelor of Science Geowissenschaften
  • Master of Science Geochemie/ Petrologie
  • Master of Science Geologie
  • Master of Science Paläontologie

Teaching unit Meteorology und Geophysics

The Meteorology and Geophysics teaching unit covers the following courses:

  • Bachelor of Science Meteorologie und Geophysik
  • Master of Science Physics of the Earth and Atmosphere
  • International Double Degree Physics of the Earth and Atmosphere (University of Bonn) and Geophysics for Natural Risks and Resources (University of Padua, Italy)
