At the Dies Academicus of the 2025/26 winter semester, Prof. Marcel Thielmann, the new Professor of Geodynamics/Geophysics at our institute since March 2025, presented the current theories and hypotheses on deep earthquakes in his lecture and explained how modern computer simulations can help to understand the physical processes responsible for these phenomena. We are delighted that the inaugural lecture was very well attended, reflecting the great interest of students and non-university audiences in geophysics as a discipline. Welcome to the University of Excellence in Bonn, Marcel!
