The climate monitoring working group led by junior professor Leonie Esters from the Department of Meteorology at the Institute of Geosciences at the University of Bonn is contributing to the exhibition ‘Expedition Weltmeere’ at the Bundeskunsthalle Bonn. As part of the current exhibition (2 October 2025 to 6 April 2026), which deals with the global oceans and their ecological significance, the working group has contributed a sensor to the CO2 measuring station. This technology is used not only to measure CO2 levels, but also to communicate scientific findings about the impact of climate change on the oceans and the climate.
The collaboration between science and art aims to raise awareness of the climate issues of our time and bring the importance of environmental protection into the focus of society. The exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to learn more about climate change and the challenges facing the world's oceans – right at the University of Bonn, a centre of excellence.
