Yohanes Ginting, a PhD student at our institute received the prestigious DAAD Prize during the International Days of the University of Bonn. The DAAD Prize is an award presented by the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) in recognition of Yohanes outstanding academic achievements and social and community engagement. Yohanes has been doing his PhD studies since 2023 in the Climate Monitoring Group at the Meteorology Section supervised by Prof. Leonie Esters. He is researching the carbon dynamics of tropical peatlands on Borneo by combining field measurements, remote sensing, and modeling to understand the effects of land use changes and climatic extremes on these sensitive ecosystems.
“This prize means a great deal to me,” Yohanes said. “It recognizes not only my research work but also my contributions to our community. It truly motivates me to pursue my academic career with even greater passion and dedication.”
