My first Diploma (M.Sc. equivalent) student graduated in 1995. Since then I have supervised 51 additional Diploma and M.Sc. students, many of whom went on to American, Canadian and European universities to pursue their Ph.D. degrees. I have also supervised 23 Ph.D. students, the first of whom obtained his degree in 2000, and I have hosted 13 postdoctoral researchers, primarily funded by the DFG and the Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation. Finally, I have supervised 15 B.Sc. student theses, newly introduced in 2010.
Many of my students and postdocs have come from around the world (Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil 2x, Canada, Chile, China 2x, France 4x, India, Italy 3x, Japan 2x, Luxemburg, Poland 2x, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, The Netherlands 5x, United Kingdom, USA). Currently my lab hosts four postdocs, seven Ph.D. students, and ten M.Sc. students. I am proud and pleased that many of my former students and postdocs are still active in the field, including six who hold professorships in Germany, Switzerland, the US, and Japan. I am also very proud that some have won prestigious prizes. Finally, I frequently participate as an external examiner in Ph.D. defenses in many European countries, the USA, and Canada.
